History

Past successes

Over the years our Club members have had some National and International success.

The first was Arthur Gilmour who won a place in the National Team in 1972, he was followed by Frank McShane who fished in the 1987 international. Frank also won a runners up medal in the 1990 National final on Loch leven and the following year, 1991, fished with the Scottish team in the International at Gratham.

John Dunbar, our most successful member, fished the International on Lower Loch Earn in 2000 winning the Millenium Trophy and the Silver Salver. In 2001 he fished the International on Loch Leven and in 2003 was National Champion. In 2004 he captained the Scottish Team on Lower Loch Earn and got a carry forward to fish for the team at Lake of Menteith in 2005. Then it was back to Ireland again to fish the international at Loch Lein in 2006.

Angus Shepherd also made the Scottish Team in 2006 and fished the Spring International.

Teams from the Club were twice regional winners of the Benson and Hedges competition in 1989 & 1991

The Club has now reached the final of the Scottish Club Championships on six occasions, the first in 1987 when Messrs Paton, Dixon and Fitsimmons were 3rd. Then Messrs Dunbar, Dixon and Gilloway were 7th in 1994 and 11th in1995. In 1997 Messrs Dixon , Dunbar and Carruthers were 11th and in 2002 Messrs Dixon, Dunbar and Frew won the heat, then won the semi final but only managed 12th in the final.  In 2010 Messrs Dixon, Dunbar and Frew again reached the final finishing 14th this time.
